Lean Construction in Costa Rica: where it works and where it doesn’t yet

Last Planner, takt time, and pull planning applied to the Costa Rican market: typical savings, success cases, and cultural barriers.

Lean Construction is maturing in Costa Rica. Repetitive projects respond best (vertical residential, industrial buildings, retail rollouts) where takt time and standardized work yield 8–15% schedule savings.

It still struggles with small subcontractors lacking planning culture, and projects with frequent scope changes (where the Lean flow breaks).

Highest-leverage tool is Last Planner System® at weekly planning level: it raises the percentage of activities completed on time (PPC) from the typical 50–60% in traditional projects to 80–85%.
